Are you excited to start planting in your home garden this Spring? Petland in Georgia has some tips for you!
It is a rewarding hobby to plant seeds and watch them grow. Petland wants you to enjoy your spring planting and potentially growing fruits and vegetables with your pets at home. Planting in the garden can be tricky with pets. We want to share how to keep your pet out of your garden this spring. Spring is also a great time to check out puppies for sale at Petland in Georgia, here are pics of our cuties!
Create a fence around your garden in the backyard.
You can buy an inexpensive wire fence for your garden that will keep your pet away. It will also keep unwanted outside pets away as well. Although our furry friends are loving and have an endless amount of energy, we want to create a safe space for them to play without disrupting the garden. Create a separate space for your dog to play that is a nice distance away from your garden.
Make some “ground” rules.
We know this sounds a bit odd, but it can be a great way to include bonding time and encourage your dog not to ruin your plants. While you are planting teach them the do’s and don’ts so they will learn quickly how sacred your garden is. Dogs are very smart and will learn if you teach them. Petland in Georgia has puppies for sale if you are looking to add to your family while planning for your Spring garden!
Create consistency for gardening.
Pick a time to tend to your garden every day so that your pet knows what to expect. The time spent in the garden shouldn’t interfere with the time your pet goes out to play or take a walk. This is important as they can learn the routine and know what to expect when you get home. It also gives your pet the time to release his or her energy so they won’t have as much energy to play in your garden and potentially do some damage.
Give them something else to dig up.
To keep your dog from digging up your garden you can give them a separate area to dig. This is a great idea to distract your dog from destroying all the hard work you put in to growing a beautiful garden and give your dog some play time.
Petland in Georgia has the cutest puppies for sale if you’re looking to add to your family. We take care of our pups and we want you to as well. Come see us today for puppies for sale or tips on how to create a safe and healthy garden for your backyard.

Create a checklist of the things you need for your trip.
We believe having a checklist keeps things on track and increases organization. Take an inventory of all the items and supplies your pet needs to be comfortable before packing. Make a checklist you can use for packing your pet’s luggage not just for this trip, but trips in the future as well. The more organized you are the less stressed you will be. Make sure their health is up-to-date.
Is your pet up-to-date on their vaccinations? Make updating their vaccinations a priority before traveling. Petland in Georgia wants to make sure not only you have a wonderful vacation, but your pet does too! Keep your pup healthy and happy by making sure they have everything they need before traveling.
Keep your dog safe in the sun.
If you’re traveling to a warmer climate, you want to think about how to keep your dog protected from the sun. Dogs can become dehydrated if they don’t get enough water while in the heat. Be sure to have water available while touring. Be sure to take breaks if needed if you’re walking your pet during extreme temperatures. It is not a bad idea to walk during the evening time when it is much cooler and tolerable for your pet. Remember you can always count on us. We have Petland locations near you and can assist to keep your pet safe while traveling.
Keep your dog safe while swimming.
Most people travel to warmer climates for vacation during spring break to experience some fun in the sun. As a pet owner, you may want to take a dip in a pool or visit a beach with your pup. Be sure your dog is prepared to swim in the pool should you make this a goal during your vacation. Depending on the breed, your pet may not be able to swim without the proper swim gear.
Be sure to check with your veterinarian or visit us at Petland locations near you for advice on equipment and or questions about how your pet can enjoy the beach or pool comfortably.
Spring is here and it is time to hit the road!
There are so many different ways to travel and people are becoming more creative on checking items off their bucket list. Traveling by recreational vehicle or van has become very popular in recent years. If you are looking to travel this year with your dog in an RV, we at Petland in Georgia would love to help you with your dreams. Read on for four must do’s while traveling in an RV.
Consider your space.
Traveling in an RV sounds adventurous and easy, but it can get tricky with having a limited amount of space. You can’t take everything with you while you’re traveling, so you want to think about the most important essentials necessary for your dog. That means instead of bringing the entire toy selection you should think about bringing only the top two toys for your pet.
Make smart accommodations.
While you’re on the road, your style for travel may vary. You may stay in a campground or use parking lots to camp out during the night. If you’re traveling to a colder climate, research how to keep your dog warm in the winter. Whatever the choice, always make sure it is accommodating for your furry friend. For example, you don’t want to visit a campground that has a “no pet allowed” policy on the premises.
Keep a routine.
Depending on how long you will be on the road, you’ll want to make sure you maintain a schedule for your pup. Your schedule doesn’t have to be rigid, but your pet should know what to expect at least in the morning and evening. Be consistent with their feeding and walking times. This should help your pet adjust well to the temporary mobile home and decrease any anxiety they may have to the new change.
Visit the veterinarian.
Make sure your dog has their immunizations before hitting the road. It also may be a good idea to have your pet groomed as well, especially because you will be away from home for an extended amount of time. This may include getting your dog’s hair cut and nails trimmed.
If you’re concerned with how to keep your dog warm in the winter – come visit us a Petland in Georgia today. Whatever your style of travel may be, Petland in Georgia wants you to be equipped and prepared for your trip. We make every effort for pet owners to be the best caregivers they can be. Spring is here and it is all about being outdoors and making memories with your family and furry friends!
Get some more use out of your backyard by turning it into a field day for your dog. We at Petland, believe it is important for your dogs to have activity during the day to maintain good health. Read on for four fun ways to turn your backyard into games for your pet.
1. Run the maze.
See what you can find around the house to create a maze for your pet. Use items, such as rope, or sticks to create a maze or track for your pet to follow. No matter if you have Frenchie pups or your dog is from the cutest big dog breeds they will be able to participate in the maze game. In the end, be sure to have a prize waiting as their incentive.
2. Fetch a toy in the pool.
Your dog will be so happy with this game. It will keep them cool and busy. Simply buy a kiddie pool and throw in their favorite chew toys for them to fetch. Some dog breeds may have difficulty swimming, such as the Frenchie pups so you should avoid overfilling the pool to make it comfortable and fun.
3. Jump in the pile.
You can get as creative as you like with this game, it is mainly to increase your dog’s activity in a short amount of time. This again can be for the cutest big dog breeds down to Frenchie pups – it doesn’t matter the size. You can make a pile of leaves, or dirt, etc. for your dog to jump in to dig for their prize. The important thing to do here is to make sure they see you burying the toy before you let them have at it. Be sure whatever pile you make is soft enough for your dog to jump in without getting hurt.
4. Hide and seek.
Lastly, this game is just a simple game for you and your pet to enjoy. Don’t let your pup see you and try to hide from them. Call their name and see if they can find you. Most likely they will because you will be in the backyard. This is just a fun way to get some exercise while spending quality time with your dog.
We at Petland, understand how important it is to spend quality time with your furry friends. We love sharing tips on how to improve your relationship with them. Have you been eying Schnauzer puppies for sale but haven’t pulled the trigger?
Perhaps you’ve already purchased one of our Schnauzer puppies for sale and you’re interested in learning more information about them. In any case, we’re glad you’re here. Continue reading to learn these interesting and historical facts about Schnauzers!
1. Their Whiskers are Protection
Sure their thick whiskers are distinct and cool, but they served a purpose beyond being picture perfect. A Schnauzer’s snout, when matted together, actually protected the Schnauzer from being bitten by the vermin they hunted on farms.
2. They’re Original
Unlike other breeds like the Poodle, the three sizes of Schnauzer puppies for sale are totally separate breeds. The original size is the Standard Schnauzer, from which the Miniature Schnauzer and the Giant Schnauzer were developed.
3. Their Name Means “Snout”
The word Schnauzer comes from the German word, “schnauze,” which means snout or muzzle. Repeat the word Schnauzer again and you’ll notice that it sounds like “shnaz” which is a slang word for a big nose!
4. They Are Versatile Dogs
They performed many jobs for German families back in the day. Schnauzer puppies were used to guard the livestock, hunt vermin, and protect their owners. The Standard Schnauzer was the ideal size because he was small enough to fit in the farmer’s cart but large enough to serve as a guard dog. Perfect combination!
5. They Worked for the German Army
As we just mentioned above, they would protect their owners so it’s no surprise that the German army used them as guard dogs!
6. They Arrived in the U.S. With Immigrants and Travelers
The first Standard Schnauzer is said to have begun appearing in the United States in the early 1900s. They came with either German immigrant families or with Americans who had gone to Germany and purchased Schnauzer puppies for sale and brought them home.
7. They’re True Family Members
One thing is for sure and it’s that this breed is known for being an amazing pet companion who’s completely devoted to their family members. No matter the size these dogs are excellent with kids and of course, they are awesome watchdogs.

We know, we know…just about everyone loves puppies!
It’s been scientifically proven that they lift moods and make people generally feel happy. Our puppies for sale are no exception and because we love puppies so much, we have dedicated this blog to them! Take a look at these 5 facts that we think everyone should know about these furry babies!
1. Did you know that the word “puppy” has French roots?
Some say the word puppy derives from poupeé, which is a French word that means doll or toy. The word puppy actually didn’t enter the English language until the late 16th century. Prior to that, baby puppies were referred to as whelps.
2. Did you know that puppies have baby teeth too?
Just like many other newborn mammals, puppies are born completely toothless. It’s not until they’re around 2 to 4 weeks of old that their 28 baby teeth will start to come in. Around 12 to 16 weeks old, those baby teeth will fall out, and by the time they reach 6 months, they should have 42 adult teeth.
3. Did you know that puppies like “baby talk” more than their parents?
Just like with humans, puppies seem to grow out of baby talk based on recent research. As part of a 2017 study, 30 women were asked to look at various pictures of people and dogs and repeated pre-written lines like: “Hi! Hello cutie! Who’s a good boy? Come here! Good boy!” When they did, it was spoken in a higher register, i.e. baby talk. These recordings were later played for 10 adult dogs and 10 puppies and almost all of the puppies started running towards the speakers when they heard the baby talk! How adorable is that?
4. Did you know that some breeds are typically born by C-section?
There are some puppies for sale that are born with extreme body proportions, which can make it very difficult to have a natural birth. Take for instance the English Bulldog and the French Bulldog. Their heads are simply too large and C-sections are the only way these little beauties are born.
5. Did you know that puppies are born blind and deaf?
When they are first born, their eyes are firmly shut and their ear canals are closed making them functionally deaf and blind for about the first few weeks of life. After that, they begin to open their eyes and their hearing is more developed!
We hope these facts about puppies have been enlightening, entertaining and educational! Check out all of our puppies for sale by clicking here for our available puppies page. We have adorable puppies of all sizes and breeds that will add joy and happiness to your life!
The Maltese is a rather affectionate and gentle breed of dog and they make the absolute perfect companion for anyone who’s looking for a small but mighty pet.
They may be small in stature and fall in the toy breed category, but they possess a fierceness that’s undeniable! If you pick up a Maltese for sale, you won’t be disappointed. We’ve gathered some basic information about Maltese puppies that will be helpful for you. You can also check out all of our Maltese puppies for sale, just click here!
In true fierce fashion, Maltese dogs are quick to make new puppy friends. They are highly sociable. This, of course, includes their sweet people-person personalities. They thrive being around their owners and families and we’ll say it again – they are fierce! This means they will try to protect their families. How cute? Like any other dog, early training and socializing will show to be beneficial for the development of the Maltese puppies. Eventually, they’ll grow to be curious and well-trained little beauties.
The Maltese hail from Malta, as their name suggests. Malta is an island in the Mediterranean Sea. They’re said to have been around since ancient times dating back as far as 500 BC. In fact, Aristotle is reported to be the first person to call the dog a Maltese.
Fine Facial Features
A Maltese for sale is adored for the beautiful looks. Their facial features are so distinct. What with their white luscious locs and mysteriously dark eyes, they are natural born beauties! If you live in colder climates and stay inside more during the winter, you’ll notice that your Maltese’s nose may fade to a flesh-colored pink or light brown. Once it’s sunny consistently again, it will go back to its beautiful black color.
We touched briefly on their fine manes but let’s delve some more. When you purchase a Maltese for sale, you’ve gotta learn about their hair care. It’s one of their “mane” attractions! The Maltese doesn’t have an undercoat or high amounts of dander and doesn’t shed like a normal dog. This is tremendous news for people with dog allergies because they are hypoallergenic. In order to keep their hair healthy, we recommend regular professional grooming. You’ll want to keep up their beautiful standards – they’ve got reputations to keep!

How much exercise do pugs require?
We’re going to get into their weight a little later on, but we’re going to let you know now that they are a lazy breed and they detest exercise. Sure, sure they have short snouts that might impact their breathing patterns but that’s in extreme climates. We think Pugs use this to their advantage because these babies are slow runners and downright couch potatoes or lap dogs! So, to answer this question, yes they require exercise to keep their weights under control but they won’t be joyfully joining you on a jog! You may opt for game playing to get in more exercise out of your Pug.
How much do Pugs typically weigh?
These babies are certainly prone to obesity, so no people food or high calorie treats. A normal and healthy weight for Pugs is 14 and 18 pounds.
What are their diets like?
As we mentioned, they are prone to obesity and perhaps that has a lot to do with the fact that Pugs absolutely love to eat! It’s imperative that you give your Pug healthy treats and that they’re on a likewise and nutritional diet. You must be consistent with this throughout their lifetime. As much as you love your Pug, they love their food!
What’s the lifespan of a Pug?
Pugs have a fairly long lifespan. They have an average of living between 13 and 15 years.
What are their grooming requirements?
Despite being short-haired dogs, Pugs shed quite a bit. You’ll need to brush them several times a week to keep a handle on the loose hairs! Invest in lint brushes and a powerful mini-vac to pick up hairs quickly. Keep their nails trimmed and short at all times. Long nails can hurt your Pug’s paw pad.
