Searching for puppies for sale near me can be a fun experience, but leaving a puppy home alone while you’re at work can be risky.
Taking a few precautions can limit puppy’s access to dangers, as well as provide for his basic needs while you’re at work. Also consider checking out our puppies for sale for a buddy situation!
Leaving a curious puppy alone with access to the entire house is dangerous for your belongings and for the puppy. There are a couple of choices when determining how to limit the young one’s space while you are away. The first is a kennel or crate. This provides you with greater control over what the puppy can and cannot get into when unsupervised. The second option is to select one room, such as your kitchen, and use baby gates in the entrances to keep the puppy inside. Kitchens are a prudent choice as most are not carpeted and therefore, any potty accidents are quicker and easier to clean up. Be sure to secure any items that pose a danger to the puppy.
Your puppy and his little bladder are still learning the ropes. Expecting a puppy to not need to go while you are gone for eight hours of work is as unrealistic as expecting a baby to wear the same diaper all day long! If at all possible, go home during your lunch break to take your puppy to the place you’ve designated for him to do his bathroom business. Your puppy is trying to learn and wants to please you, but simply cannot hold it all day. Leave pee pads or newspaper in one corner of the puppy’s controlled area so he can go potty there if necessary.
Dogs are highly social creatures by nature. They long to please their parents and they want to be with you. Add this to the fact that your puppy has been recently separated from his biological mother and siblings and it’s easy to understand why your puppy may experience some separation anxiety in your absence. One of the best ways to minimize this is to get a companion canine for your puppy. Two dogs together will keep each other company. However, this isn’t possible in all cases. Be sure to leave toys for the puppy to engage. Perhaps choose one or two particular toys that the puppy can play with only in your absence. Select an interactive puzzle toy that forces the puppy to solve how to get a treat out of the toy. If your answering machine is within earshot of the puppy, call home a couple times a day leaving a message just for him to hear. Your voice will be a soothing interruption during the day.
Of course, nothing can replace human companionship during the day. If possible, leave the puppy in the care of another person. Doggie daycare centers are a growing trend. Other daytime options include pet sitters who will check in on your puppy during the day. Services offered by pet sitters range from full-day care or simply an hour consisting of a potty break, a walk and some snuggle time.
Having a new cute puppy dog can be almost identical to having a new baby.
Puppies need an ample amount of love and care after they go to their new furrr-ever homes. In the beginning, getting up in the middle of the night to check on your pup because they may be crying, hungry, or afraid could happen quite frequently. Petland wants to offer you a few tips and suggestions to make the transition in adapting to a new dog enjoyable and pleasant. Can’t wait to see all of our adorable puppies for sale? Just click here!
1. Keep them busy.
Young pups are energetic and full of excitement when they are newly born. Dog owners typically work all day and whey they get home they would like for the dog to sleep when they do. New pups need a good amount of stimulation to help them sleep during the night. Make sure they have playtime before bed. You can play catch with your new pup outside or have some fun toys they can chase after to tire them out. Try going for a walk every evening and make it a routine for consistency.
2. Be creative with their food.
Make sure they have a good meal before bed. You can try putting dog food inside of a teething chew toy or hollow bone to have them work for their food to tire them out. Keeping your puppy physically and mentally active is the key to keeping them asleep at night. If you have a family, you can incorporate your family members in an activity to increase your pup’s stimulation.
3. Walk your dog before bed.
Make sure to take your puppy to the bathroom before bed. Putting them to bed with a full bladder will surely keep them up at night. Also, you can try covering the puppy crate a bit to control light and sound when it is time for bed to help your pup transition between morning and night. Limit the amount of water you give your pup in the evening – be sure to check with your veterinarian as certain breeds may have different requirements.

1. Bring familiar items.
Traveling with a pet can be stressful if you’re not prepared. Making sure you have what you need is essential to eliminating stress for you and your pet. Sometimes change can increase your pet’s stress and cause them to have a slight change in their behavior. Bringing familiar items on the trip can decrease their anxiety and keep your cute puppy dogs happy!
2. Be consistent as much as possible.
Keeping a familiar routine can also keep your furry friend at ease. Since everything will be different while you’re on vacation, make every effort to be consistent as possible in other areas. For example, keep their feeding times and walking times the same. If you are traveling to a different time zone, evaluate how much of a difference it is from home and make an adjustment if necessary.
3. Does the hotel and other places welcome cute puppy dogs?
Consider the space you will be staying while traveling out of the country. Some places aren’t pet-friendly. Do your research to make sure the places you want to visit welcomes pets. Some places do offer to babysit dogs while on vacation, but of course, use your best judgment before handing your pet off to a stranger.
4. Did you check with your veterinarian?
Does your pet need more immunizations before traveling? Check with your veterinarian to make sure your pet is up-to-date with immunizations needed to travel to another country. Some extra immunizations may be necessary to keep your pet healthy.
