Breed Info

Alaskan Malamute

The Alaskan Malamute is a majestic breed known for its impressive strength and enduring spirit, rooted in a rich history as sled dogs in the Arctic. These loyal companions are characterized by their friendly demeanor and affectionate nature, making them wonderful family pets for those who can accommodate their energetic lifestyle. While they can be good with children and other dogs, it's essential to remember that their playful and sometimes mischievous personalities require supervision to ensure harmonious interactions.

As a medium-sized breed, Malamutes bring plenty of energy and enthusiasm to their households. Regular exercise is a must, so be prepared for daily walks and playtime to keep them happy and healthy. Despite their size and energy, they are not particularly suited for apartment living, preferring open spaces where they can roam and explore. This breed has a strong instinct for adventure and an innate desire to be part of outdoor activities, where they truly shine.

Grooming is a vital aspect of owning a Malamute, as they shed quite a bit throughout the year. With weekly grooming sessions, you can keep their thick double coat looking its best while minimizing the amount of fur in your home. They are generally intelligent and trainable, but consistent training methods and ample patience are important to help shape their behavior. If you are ready to welcome a spirited companion into your life, consider the Alaskan Malamute at Petland Mall of Georgia for a joyful and loyal addition to your family.
